It is essential to provide training to the entire veterinary team: vets, nurses and patient care assistants, at the same time in order to standardise practice.
Sessions can be divided into theory and practical sessions where staff can use the equipment available to them on a daily basis or be introduced to new equipment the practice has invested in, for example a new multi-parameter monitor. Training can be completely tailored to the needs of your practice.
Does your team lack confidence with their new multi-parameter monitor? Do you want to make improvements to your anaesthesia and analgesia protocols? Does your team need to learn how to use a new ventilator? Or maybe you would like to learn new techniques such as local anaesthesia?
As an experienced Veterinary Technician Specialist I can join your team for up to a day to assist with real cases. The day often starts with a theory session on your chosen topic of the day e.g multi-parameter monitoring, and is followed by putting that new knowledge into practice with someone alongside to answer questions or discuss troubleshooting.
Together we can look at your practice anaesthesia protocol and I can help you to implement, often simple changes, that will improve your patient care and team confidence.
Introducing evidence based recommendations to resuscitate dogs and cats in cardiac arrest.
In 2012 the Reassessment Campaign on Veterinary Resuscitation or RECOVER was founded. This was a collaborative effort by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society. They developed evidence based guidelines for the resuscitation of cats and dogs.
Trained in the RECOVER guidelines we provide CPR training involving the entire veterinary team on all aspects of basic and advanced life support. The session starts with a theory session on the guidelines and how to implement them in practice and is followed by a practical session with CPR dummy dog “Monty” working on team dynamics and communication.
Questions and team discussion on implementing changes is strongly encouraged during the training session.
This can include both theory and practical training sessions on local anaesthetic blocks such as dental blocks, incisional blocks, blocks for neutering and more.
Local anaesthetic blocks are quick, easy to perform and low cost to the practice, in fact they may even save you money by reducing inhalant anaesthetic use. They provide excellent analgesia for your patients enabling a reduction in inhalant anaesthetic which helps reduce the incidence of hypotension, allows a smoother anaesthetic and a better anaesthetic recovery.
Lunch or evening sessions covering any anaesthesia or analgesia topic you choose tailored to your practices needs.
Sessions often last 1-2 hours and cover all aspects of your chosen subject. Questions and discussion is strongly encouraged as this encourages a whole team approach getting vets and nurses learning together.
Due to this I am only able to travel up to 2 hours driving distance for in-house training sessions. This is illustrated on the map.
If you are outside of this area please contact me to discuss your requirements. Alternatively, I can provide online training sessions for you, please click below.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need any help or advice about the courses we run.
